The Company:

SST is owned and operated by me, Roger "RJ" Nelsen. It was started because I didn't like the way the Strength & Conditioning industry, as a whole, was heading. There's too much telling people what to do, and not enough explaining as to why. People take the recommendations of self-proclaimed experts as gospel and far too often feel comfortable letting others do the thinking for them. This needs to change.

The goal here at SST is not just to make each and every one of our clients a better athlete, but to teach them to understand the training process inside and out. We want to improve each person that comes to us both physically and mentally. And most importantly, we want to make them self sufficient, so after a time, they won't need us or any other expert. If they run into a problem, they'll have the knowledge to handle it, and if they don't, then they'll know where and how to search for the answer.

We here at SST aim to bring you only the most up-to-date and applicable information available, both from scientists on the front lines of research and from the professional coaches and athletes on the front lines of the field. No matter the source, you can rest assured that the information will be presented clearly, concisely, and in a format just waiting to be absorbed.

The Operator:

As mentioned before, my name is Roger Nelsen, or RJ if you know me. I can't yet claim fancy letters after my name, or even a degree in this particular field (I'm actually about to earn a bachelor's in psychology), but I've spent my fair time on the field, in the trenches, and in the library. Like I said, I've got no certification in the field, but I know what I'm doing.

Over the past few years I've transformed myself from a scrawny video game addict into a muscular and competent athlete. During this time I've spent countless hundreds of hours in the weight room and on the track. I've read dozens of books and thousands of journal articles. I've written papers on nearly every training subject imaginable. And I've built up solid connections with professional coaches, professional athletes, and various medical professionals in the S&C field. What knowledge I haven't gained through reading or firsthand experience, I've gained through interaction with my contacts, all of whom deserve my thanks.

As for my personal accomplishments, I've gained nearly 40 pounds of muscle (from 170 to a high of 210 lbs @ 6'1"), I've taken my vertical leap from just touching rim to allowing me to stand flat footed underneath the hoop and dunk, I've dropped over 1 second off of my 100M dash time, I've added 1'6" to my broad jump (8'8" to 10'2"), I've bench pressed over 300 lbs, and I've been able to do a chin up with 150 lbs attached to my waist. These numbers are by no means final though. I'm improving all the time, and it's certain that each one of these PRs will fall in short order.

I've competed as a sprinter for the past couple of years, but am now shifting my focus over to bobsled, where my weight and acceleration abilities should serve me better. With any luck, I'll be joinining the US team before the 2010 Olympics.
